LULAC 11041 provides amazing scholarship opportunities each year. Civil rights activists have found a new purpose in retirement by supporting the next generation with avoiding student debt through generous scholarships and professional development.

As leaders in the Hispanic Community, we do not take lightly our responsibility to continue our good work, and in providing scholarships, for it flows from a legacy that each LULAC generation in turn has upheld for the benefit of the   overall Washington DC community.

LULAC Awards Scholarships

This spring LULAC 11041 members voted to award $16,000 in scholarships to 14 outstanding students. The scholarship committee, led by Marilyn Nevy Cruz, selected the recipients from a competitive pool of 38 applications. An in-person award ceremony was held on Saturday, July 19, from Noon to 2 p.m. at LULAC National Headquarters (1776 I St NW Suite 400 in Washington DC). DC LULAC members were invited to attend. Congratulations to the following 2025 Scholarship recipients:
$2,000 Ed Peña National Scholarship Honors Award: Andres Orejuela (George Washington University), Jose Rojas (University of Texas Rio Grande)
$2,000 Emma Moreno National Scholarship Achievement Award: Solomon Seyoum (Columbia Heights Education Campus), Camryn Howard (School Without Walls)
$1,000 Emma Moreno National Scholarship Achievement Award: Layla Allen (Howard University), Kalieyah Johnson (Howard University)
$1,000 General Award: Mia Portillo (George Washington University), Sindy Perez Perez (Columbia Heights Education Campus), Landon Gordon (Richard Wright Public Charter Schools), Taron Lawson (Hampton University), Brenda Gomez Gonzalez (Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School), Alejandra Gonzalez (The University of Texas Austin)
$500 General Award: Alanis Pineda (Columbia Heights Education Campus), Asia Thomas (New Jersey City University)
