LULAC 11125 Elects Deshawn cook

On February 11, members of LULAC Lambda elected Deshawn Cook as president. Hailing from Brooklyn, Deshawn brings a deep academic and professional background in DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) to LULAC Lambda. With a doctorate in Fine Arts and a Master of Science in Jurisprudence and Health Law, Deshawn is uniquely positioned to lead a council that sits at the intersection of Latine and Queer identities. Deshawn’s primary mission is to expand the reach of LULAC Lambda by:

  • Aggressively building membership within the Latine Queer community.
  • Increasing fundraising efforts with the specific goal of awarding at least three scholarships in the coming year.
  • Empowering community members to step into effective service roles.

“LULAC inspires us to be our best as we fight for the rights of all people, especially para la comunidad," Deshawn said. "There’s a lot of work to do, but we can do it. Thank you for stepping up and being leaders in our community.”

Deshawn will serve alongside Vice President Jon Parvez, Secretary Sebastian Barajas, and Treasurer Jesse Garcia. To contact Deshawn, you may reach them at deshawncook@gmail.com.
